Major Art Museum Defends Against $40 Million Property Tax Claim
Represented a major art museum property in connection with the claim of the Los Angeles County Assessor for approximately $40 million in property Taxes against the Art Collections. The representation included the preparation and filing of voluminous applications for the welfare exemption and numerous negotiations and presentations to County Assessor officials and members of the State Board of Equalization. The case culminated in a full hearing before the State Board of Equalization which ruled in favor of the Foundation. Subsequently, the L.A. County Assessor agreed to relinquish its claim, even though it could have and frequently does advance these claims through appeals through the state courts.
