Henning Schmidt is a Counsel in Stradling’s Intellectual Property practice group. Henning has extensive experience representing both plaintiffs and defendants in complex intellectual property litigation covering a wide variety of technologies. Litigating patent cases in the Federal District Courts and the United States International Trade Commission, he focuses on high-tech patent litigation, with a particular emphasis on computer hardware, software, networking technology, and telecommunications. Henning has represented clients in oral arguments before the Judicial Panel for Multidistrict Litigation, and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board in IPR and CBM proceedings. He has also litigated trademark and copyright disputes, and has experience with software patent prosecution.

Henning’s experience includes representing a corporation in multiple infringement actions to enforce a telecommunications patent portfolio, securing tens of millions of dollars in settlements and judgments for the client. Henning has also represented corporations in the United States International Trade Commission against both foreign and domestic companies, resulting in an importation ban of infringing products and related settlement agreements. He has also successfully defended clients against improper claims of patent infringement in Federal District Courts and in the International Trade Commission, resulting either in the dismissal of all allegations or in favorable settlement agreements.

Before attending The University of Texas School of Law, Henning worked as a senior software design engineer with particular focus on firmware engineering including enterprise secure data storage and network security. His engineering experience at various startup companies includes a business centric view of IP creation, protection, and assertion. Additionally, Henning speaks English and German fluently.
